EDF to offer 23 billion dollars for British Energy: report

French electricity group EDF on Wednesday is to put forward a new 15.6-billion-euro (23-billion-dollar) offer for British Energy, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday in its online edition.

FTSE dragged down 1.9 percent

The top share index ended down 1.9 percent on Tuesday, led by commodity stocks as metal and crude prices fell, and by banks on uncertainty over a proposed U.S. package to rescue the financial sector.

ECB offers 180 bln euros in regular liquidity move

 The European Central Bank said Tuesday it had allotted 180 billion euros (266 billion dollars) during regular refinancing operations that saw strong demand for the funds available.
