Prince Harry awarded campaign medal - Ministers defend Gordon Brown - Strike closes oil pipeline, causes petrol panic.

Prince Harry awarded campaign medal

Prince Harry will be presented with a campaign medal for his service in Afghanistan by his aunt the Princess Royal.

The 23-year-old will be among around 160 fellow Household Cavalry troops attending a ceremony in Windsor on May 5 to be honoured for their role fighting the Taliban.

Ministers defend Gordon Brown

Senior Labour figures have backed Gordon Brown amid claims that Tony Blair had written off the Prime Minister's chances of winning the next election.

Ministers moved to insist Mr Brown was safe in his job despite more dire polls and warnings that Labour would be punished in Thursday's local elections for scrapping the 10p tax rate.

Strike closes oil pipeline, causes petrol panic

Britain on Sunday shut down a North Sea pipeline which supplies 40 percent of its oil and gas and there was panic-buying of petrol after a strike at a major refinery.

The start of a two-day walkout by around 1,200 workers at the Grangemouth refinery, west of Edinburgh, forced the neighbouring Forties pipeline close down at the same time, operator BP said.

Levy: 'Blair Said Brown Can't Beat Tories'

One of Tony Blair's closest allies has claimed the former prime minister believed Gordon Brown "could never beat" Tory leader David Cameron - as a new poll suggests Labour will lose the next election by a wide margin.

Lord Levy's comments - categorically denied by Mr Blair - came in the controversial peer's memoirs.

Ministers feel heat over tax change

Ministers came under further fire over how some of Britain's poorest workers will be helped following the scrapping of the 10p rate of tax.

The compensation offered by Chancellor Alistair Darling appears not to have quelled anger on the doorstep, with one backbench Labour MP today talking of voters' "disbelief and hostility".
