A 700-billion-dollar Wall Street bailout moved closer to approval in the House of Representatives on Friday, as several lawmakers said they would drop their opposition to the sweetened crisis bill.

Sarkozy to meet IMF chief ahead of finance summit

French President Nicolas Sarkozy will host talks with International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn Saturday ahead of a European mini-summit on the financial crisis, his office said.

FTSE rises 2.3 percent as banks lead on bailout hopes

The FTSE 100 ended up 2.3 percent on Friday, led by banks on hopes that the U.S. House of Representatives will give the green light to a $700 billion (396 billion pound) financial sector rescue package.
