Baggage check-in suspended at T5
Airport chiefs have apologised to passengers after a disastrous opening day for Heathrow's flagship £4.3 billion Terminal 5 ended with British Airways having to suspend all baggage check-in at the new facility.

Euthanasia remark Tory suspended
A councillor has been suspended from the Conservative Party after suggesting euthanasia as a means to cut the cost of caring for vulnerable children.

Youths convicted of killing Goth
Two drunken youths who acted like "wild animals" in a brutal attack on a Goth woman because of the way she looked have been convicted of murder.

Schools may get pupil search powers
Teachers could be given new powers to search teenagers for drugs, alcohol and stolen goods, Schools Secretary Ed Balls has said.
Sir Alan Steer, head of the Government's school discipline task force, will review the operation of existing powers for school staff to search pupils for weapons. Mr Balls asked Sir Alan to consider how the powers could be extended so teachers can search pupils for other illicit items.

Sarkozy to sound out EU on Olympics
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has warned he will be "sounding out" EU member states over a possible boycott of the Beijing Olympics, despite Britain's determination to see the Games go ahead.
