Evacuations Amid Tidal Flood Threat
A massive tidal surge that could lead to disastrous flooding is threatening to hit the east coast.
A flood expert told Sky News unless swift action is taken "we could have a significant number of deaths", as evacuations from the areas at risk began. The Environment Secretary Hilary Benn told the House of Commons a surge "of up to three metres is making its way down the North Sea".
Parents jailed for tot death
A drug addicted couple have been jailed for five years each for causing the death of their baby son.
The Old Bailey heard ten-month-old Neo Craig died from a punch to the stomach and had been dead for hours before an ambulance was called last Christmas Eve. His blood and hair roots showed a cocaine contamination from birth.
Judge Richard Hone, QC, said Neo was on the local authority child protection register at Havering, East London, following "unexplained" scratches and bruises.
Ministers focus on climate change
Ministers from around the UK have pledged to step up their action against climate change.
In Edinburgh, finance minister John Swinney said that local councils would have a key role to play in tackling global warming.
And in Northern Ireland, transport minister Conor Murphy said the travel sector should also be considering the impact of climate change.
Military chiefs demand more cash
Soldiers are "paying in blood" for the inadequate spending on defence by Government, the newly-formed UK National Defence Association (UKNDA) has warned.
The UKNDA said UK efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan were being seriously undermined by a lack of money for equipment and personnel.
School stripper shocks birthday boy
A schoolboy was given an unexpected surprise for his 16th birthday when a stripper turned up in his drama class.
The stripper - dressed as a policewoman - had been booked by the boy's mother, who had apparently asked for a "gorilla" to mark her son's big day.
The woman even asked the teenager's teacher at Nottingham's Arnold Hill School and Technology College to film the event so the family could see his reaction.
