Real estate agents warn about thieves - Lights come back on Broadway - Minn. pipeline fire sends oil soaring - Republicans hold fight night at debate - Candidates challenged on gays in military.

Real estate agents warn about thieves
Real estate agents have standard advice for homeowners planning their first open house: Hire a cleaning service. Drop the pets off with a neighbor. And lock up your valuables because you never know who may be stopping by.
Over two recent Sundays, a pair of women posing as wealthy home buyers visited at least six open houses at luxury homes in Manhattan and Upper Saddle River, N.J., and, police say, made off with jewelry and trinkets worth more than $73,000.

Lights come back on Broadway
Broadway came back to life Thursday as stage-starved fans lined up in the cold for tickets and theaters reopened their doors following a 19-day stagehands strike that took a big toll on the local economy.
The mood was ecstatic all around the theater district. Tourists, actors, stagehands, restaurants, musicians, hot dog vendors — basically anyone remotely affected by Broadway — were all thrilled about the return of musicals and plays.

Minn. pipeline fire sends oil soaring
A fire at a major pipeline from Canada that feeds oil to the United States killed two workers and sent oil prices soaring before burning out Thursday morning, officials said.
The two were fixing the underground pipeline when fumes apparently escaped, igniting the blaze Wednesday in Clearbrook, about 215 miles northwest of Minneapolis, said Kristine Chapin, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Nearby residents were evacuated because of the thick black smoke in the sparsely populated area.

Republicans hold fight night at debate
With the final round of a yearlong campaign approaching, the Republican presidential race grew remarkably bitter as the top contenders jockeyed for the upper hand — and sought it by tearing down one another.
Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Republican candidates' favorite target in a debate just a month ago, no longer was their preferred punching bag.

Candidates challenged on gays in military
A retired officer who posed a GOP debate question on the issue turns out to be a supporter of the Clinton campaign. In one of the more personal and direct confrontations during Wednesday's CNN-YouTube debate, a 43-year military veteran who is gay pressed the Republican presidential candidates about why they didn't support gays and lesbians serving openly in the armed forces.
