Senate votes to stop production of F-22 jet
WASHINGTON: The U.S. Senate voted on Tuesday to stop production of the F-22 fighter plane, handing President Barack Obama a victory as he tries to rein in defense spending. he Senate voted 58 to 40 to strip $1.75 billion for the Lockheed Martin Corp-built planes from a $680 billion defense bill, overriding the objections of lawmakers seeking to protect manufacturing jobs in the midst of a deep recession.

New research is showing just how children's brains can become bilingual so easily, findings that scientists hope eventually could help the rest of us learn a new language a bit easier.
"We think the magic that kids apply to this learning situation, some of the principles, can be imported into learning programs for adults," says Dr. Patricia Kuhl of the University of Washington, who is part of an international team now trying to turn those lessons into more teachable technology.

A 15-year-old girl has died in hospital in Scotland after contracting swine flu.
Glasgow: the girl died in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and had underlying medical conditions, the Scottish Government said.
She is the fourth person with swine flu to have died in Scotland and the 30th in the UK.
The news comes after the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that more than 700 people worldwide are now thought to have died after contracting the virus, which is spreading faster than any previous flu pandemic.

Eight-year jail sentence for nurse abduction
Glasgow: a illegal immigrant who abducted a nurse and left her tied up in the boot of her car for ten days has been sentenced to eight years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow.

Former editor of the News of the World questioned
Former royal editor Clive Goodman was jailed in 2007 for involvement in the hacking of voicemails left on the phones of royal aides.
Mr Coulson resigned after the scandal and has since become the Conservative Party's Director of Communications.
