Venables jailed for two years
Jon Venables, one of the killers of James Bulger, has been jailed for two years after admitting to downloading and distributing indecent images of children, after images were found on his computer when he left it at a police station amid fears his true identity had been discovered. He had pleaded guilty to three offences including the downloading 57 pornographic pictures of youngsters onto his computer between February last year and February this year. Venables, 27, appeared at the Old Bailey by video link from prison but in a highly unusual move he could only be seen by the judge hearing the case. He only spoke to confirm his name and plead guilty to each count. It was the first time he had appeared since being recalled to prison in February. Venables was given a new name after being released on licence from his life sentence in 2001, and fearing his secret had got out called a probation officer. He was told to gather his belongings, and when the officer arrived he was trying to delete files from his computer and remove the hard drive. The machine was taken to the police station and later examined by officers, the High Court also heard.(itn)

JOYRIDING BEAR LEAVES TEEN GRIZZLY
A bear got into a teenager's car, honked the horn and then sent it rolling 125 feet into a thicket, a Colorado family has said. Ben Story, 17, said he and his family were asleep in their home south of Denver when the bear managed to open the unlocked door of his 2008 Toyota Corolla and climbed inside. A peanut butter sandwich left on the back seat is probably what attracted the bear, Ben said. It is not unusual for bears to open unlocked doors to cars and houses in search of food, Tyler Baskfield, a spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife said. "It happens all the time," he said. "They're very smart." Once inside, the bear must have knocked the automatic transmission shift into neutral, sending the car rolling backwards down the inclined driveway and into the thicket, Ben said. The door apparently slammed shut when the car jolted to a stop, he said, trapping the bear inside. Neighbours had called emergency police dispatchers, and deputies freed the bear by opening the door with a rope from a distance. The bear then ran into the woods.(rpess association)

Tory In 'Brokeback' Gaffe Over Clegg And PM
Ex-shadow home secretary David Davis is reported to have compared David Cameron and Nick Clegg's partnership to the gay cowboys in the film Brokeback Mountain. Mr Davis is alleged to have described the relationship between the Tory Prime Minister and his Liberal Democrat deputy as the "Brokeback coalition". Broke Mountain won three Oscars for its depiction of a homosexual relationship between two cowboys. The backbench MP, who attributed the original jibe to Tory donor Lord Ashcroft, denied making the comments which are published in Saturday's Financial Times. Mr Davis is alleged to have made a slew of disparaging remarks about the Coalition during a private conversation in a south London pub in earshot of journalists from the newspaper. The paper claimed that the MP lampooned Mr Cameron's flagship Big Society policy as "Blairite dressing" and suggested the Tory leadership was more concerned with appeasing the Liberal Democrats than its own party.(skynews)
