Three soldiers from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment and one soldier from 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (attached to 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment) troops died near Gereshk, Helmand Province. The deaths took the number of UK troops who have died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001 to 307. Queen Elizabeth brings royal glamour to Wimbledon
The sovereign brought the All England Club to a standstill as she made her first visit to The Championships since 1977, which also brought the last British singles title thanks to Virginia Wade. She was given a standing ovation from the Centre Court crowd when she appeared in the royal box. Andy Murray and Finland's Jarkko Niemenen revived the tradition of bowing to the royal box and received a huge cheer themselves when they stopped just short of their seats, turned and bowed to Her Majesty.(AFP)

The servicemen - three from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment and one from 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment - died near Gereshk in Helmand Province. O2 rolls out new smartphone tariffs
The announcement coincides with the launch of the iPhone4 although O2 says the limits won't be imposed before October 1. The network will cap all new and upgrading customers' data usage between 500 megabytes and one gigabyte depending on their monthly tariff. Analysts said the cap was "inevitable" as more people switch to data-intensive smartphones that can surf the web and play video.(AFP)

Two face 'sex offender' murder case
A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were told they will face trial at the end of September. They were remanded in custody to a plea and case management hearing on August 12, when the charge will be put to them.(press association)

MPs claimed £10m in six months
The spending emerged as the House of Commons published the latest itemised breakdown of how allowances were used. The material covers accommodation, office, communications and incidental expenses from the second and third quarters of the 2009-10 financial year.(press association)
