Fifa sorry over Lampard 'goal'
Fifa president Sepp Blatter said he had apologised to the Football  Association over Frank Lampard's disallowed 'goal' and revealed the governing body would look again at goal-line technology. Lampard's shot in England's 4-1 defeat to Germany was ruled out even though the ball clearly crossed the line. At a media briefing on Johannesburg, Blatter said: "It is obvious that after the experience so far in this World Cup it would be nonsense to not reopen the file of technology at the business meeting of the International FA Board in July.(itn)

Expenses politicians in appeal bid
David Chaytor, Elliot Morley, Jim Devine and Lord Hanningfield, who are all on bail, are asking the Court of Appeal to overturn a ruling earlier this month that they are not protected from prosecution by parliamentary privilege. Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, sitting in London with Master of the Rolls Lord Neuberger and Sir Anthony May, heard that the four - who all deny theft by false accounting - also did "not suggest that MPs are immune from the criminal law by reason of their status as MPs". Nigel Pleming QC, for Chaytor, told the packed court: "This is not an attempt to take these defendants above the law. It is to ensure they, and indeed other members in a similar position, are adjudicated by the correct law and the correct body."(press association)

Owzat? Wisdens net charity thousands
The four volumes, from 1864-1867, had been bound up into one and were dropped off into an Oxfam shop in Hertford, north of London. But alert staff realised what they had on their hands and had them rebound as four books before passing them on to auctioneers Bonhams in Oxford where they were sold on Tuesday. Of the four Wisdens auctioned, it was the 1864 edition that went for the highest price of 3,120 pounds, with the quartet of volumes raising 8,520 pounds in total.(afp)

Tight Budget 'Could Cut Bobbies On The Beat'
Sir Hugh Orde, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers, said the number of bobbies on the beat is not "sustainable". He told the Acpo annual conference it was "misleading in the extreme" to imply critical duties will not be affected when budgets are slashed. Home Secretary Theresa May is also attending the event and giving a speech to officers. In a statement, the Home Office said the police "will have to bear a fair share of the burden" as the Government attempts to tackle the budget deficit.(skynews)

Prince Charles' Taxpayer Funding Falls
Prince Charles' private income increased by 4% in 2009 but the amount of money he received from the taxpayer almost halved to £1.6m, his accounts show. The Prince of Wales' income from the Duchy of Cornwall rose from £16.5m last year to £17.1m this year. The Duchy is a private estate and the Prince opts to use most of the money he earns from it to fund his public activities. According to figures released by Clarence House, his funding from Government departments and grants-in-aid decreased £3,033,000 to £1,664,000. The significant drop in the amount of taxpayer funds is down to cutting spending on foreign travel, the Prince's principal private secretary Sir Michael Peat said.(skynews)
