Bush cautiously hopeful on peace talks - Putin accuses U.S. of meddling in Russian vote - Giuliani: Promote benefits of democracy - Obama's standing in Iowa poll shifts contest - Rudy: It's time to unmask Romney.

Bush cautiously hopeful on peace talks
President Bush stepped cautiously into the most direct Mideast peacemaking of his administration on Monday, meeting separately with the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority to explore whether peace is possible.
A day ahead of a major Mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Md., Bush said he was optimistic. The gathering is to launch the first direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians of Bush's nearly seven years in office, and has attracted Arab and other outside backing.

Putin accuses U.S. of meddling in Russian vote
President Vladimir Putin accused Washington on Monday of plotting to undermine parliamentary elections on December 2, seen widely as a demonstration of his enduring power in Russia.
Putin, drawing on resurgent nationalist sentiment ahead of Sunday's poll, said Russia must maintain its defenses to discourage others from "poking their snotty noses" in its affairs.

Giuliani: Promote benefits of democracy
Republican Rudy Giuliani said Monday the reputation of the United States has suffered globally not so much because of arrogant actions but for lack of salesmanship about benefits of democracy.
If he is elected president, he said, he would seek ambassadors who would work hard to sell U.S. strengths to foreigners, not just explain those distant nations to Washington.

Obama's standing in Iowa poll shifts contest
DES MOINES - Hillary Clinton began the week with Sunday-morning worship at Grace United Methodist Church, with a hymnbook open before her, bobbing her head along as the choir sang, "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so."
In the more earthly pursuits that occupy Clinton's attention in Iowa these days, such fervor is easy to come by. Certainty is not.

Rudy: It's time to unmask Romney
In a big strategic shift, Rudy Giuliani hammered Mitt Romney’s record Sunday on three fronts, saying it was time to “take the mask off and take a look at what kind of governor was he.”
Using some of the toughest language of his campaign, Giuliani, in an interview with Politico, slammed Romney on health care, crime and taxes. At the same time he portrayed the one-time moderate as a hypocrite on a host of social issues who lives “in a glass house.”
