Police halt DNA test after Omagh case
Police suspended a controversial DNA testing procedure on Friday after critical comments by the judge in the Omagh bomb trial. The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) also said a review would be carried out on any pending cases involving Low Copy DNA profiling.
Tony Lake, ACPO lead on forensics and Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police, said in a statement: "We shall study the terms of the Omagh judgment carefully, consider the implications and determine whether action needs to be taken.

Scottish unit suspends heart transplants
Heart transplants will be suspended in Scotland while an enquiry into an increase in the number of patient deaths is carried out, the local NHS trust said on Friday.
Four of the 11 patients (36 percent) who underwent a transplant this year at the Scottish National Heart Transplant unit in Glasgow died within 30 days, the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) said.

Tories attack Brown over foreign prisoners
Thousands of foreign prisoners may be allowed to stay in Britain on their release from jail, despite Gordon Brown's pledge to crack down on overseas offenders, the Conservative Party said on Friday.
The Tories said a leaked Prison Service memo reveals that immigration officials have "no interest" in deporting those who have spent less than a year behind bars.

Prison memo sparks immigration row
A leaked Prison Service memo suggests immigration officials are not deporting foreign criminals unless they are sentenced to more than a year in jail.
That could mean thousands of foreign drug dealers, thieves and fraudsters can stay in the country when they are released.

Nokia and InterDigital claim patent case victory
Nokia and wireless technology firm InterDigital each declared victory in a court decision on Friday over patents related to the UMTS third-generation (3G) mobile phone standard.
A London High Court ruled in favour of Nokia, the world's largest mobile-phone maker, that most of the patents in the case are not essential for mobile phone operators wishing to comply with the 3G standard, as claimed by InterDigital.
